The Writing and Politics scheduled for Monday, June 16, sounds like my cup of fair-trade-tea. I hope I can make it there (from Colorado Springs, home of five military bases and Focus on the Family). I'm nearing completion of a first draft of a novel, _For the Love of Taos: Jesse's Private War with Mr. Rumsfeld_. Set in the summer of 2007, Mr. Rumsfeld is retired (so to speak) from the DoD, and spends more time at his home in Taos. Jesse, a 50-year-old K-12 school substitute, on a writer's retreat, trades high school politics for the Taos spirit of revolt. In her three chance encounters with the former SecDef (and two of his security guards), Jesse finds that all politics are personal, and ultimately, the person we think is the bad guy, isn't so bad--but rather a fascinating creature of his own creation. (I hope to see you in Denver soon.)
